Wind Monitoring

08.11.11

The 5th and final wind monitoring mast was completed in July. The new mast will record data to allow for further energy assessment and correlation studies to be undertaken.

The project has exceptional 11 year data sets and, with the two additional masts erected earlier in the year, now almost 18 years of combined data, the best in the state. Combined with the existing data, the short term data from the 5th mast will give the project even greater certainty and allow for the final energy assessment to be completed.

Prior to the installation of both towers, CASA, RAAF and Upper Hunter Shire Council were notified of the location and height of new masts. All local and regional aviators were also notified.

The masts were painted "international orange" with white sections, and aviation balls attached to the top guy wires to increase visibility.

The results of long term wind monitoring have proven strong winds during evening peak demand times. Preliminary data from the 5th tower is correlating well with existing long term data.
